It also has an important ecological angle. Solar and wind energy production fluctuates throughout the day, depending on the weather and time of day. It is better to use renewable energy at the time it is produced and this is reflected in the price.
Using dynamic electricity prices can also be very interesting for households. However, no one wants to spend time and effort planning to use electricity when the prices are low and to avoid consumption when the prices are high.
That is where BattR steps in: it optimizes your electricity bill in a fully automated way.
The service by BattR consists of two parts:
- Computing the optimal “plan”, taking all factors into account: hourly electricity rates, current battery and car energy levels, expected energy consumption, solar energy forecast, etc…
- Converting the “plan” into automated actions on your home battery and/or electric car
This way,
- The battery is charged at the cheapest time of day, so that this cheap electricity can be used at times when it would be more expensive to take it from the grid
- The car is charged at the cheapest hours, taking the desired target level into account
The optimization is recalculated every 15 minutes, so the plan is constantly adapted in case something unexpected happens.
